Last night was like watching a fight, only to have a hockey game break out. Folks, no debate is complete without dissension, but no true debate exists when one side of the equation is buttressed by the moderators. Harris won the debate, but Trump won the battle about what voters wanted to hear.
‘Sound and fury, signifying nothing’ is a quote from Shakespeare’s play, “Macbeth.” It is something you may say to or about a person who is simply making a big fuss, maybe shouting and often using bad language, and becoming angry concerning a particular issue, when there’s not anything they can do something about, and all the noise and fuss amount to nothing and are just a waste of our time and energy. Welcome to last night's debate and today’s result.
The Market Spoke
During and after the debate, as Harris was winning, the indices headed lower. When Taylor Swift came out and supported Harris, the downside should have increased, but it did not. Instead, the indices, taking everything into consideration, headed higher, much higher.
A Trump victory will lift stocks. A Harris win will kill the markets. We are starting to see this trend emerge, and that’s a good thing. It’s always nice to see a direction in any market and, that’s the “sound and fury” I sought. Let’s keep watching.
Short & Sweet
Blessings go out to those who gave their lives 23 years ago when the United States was attacked. Donald Trump dwelled upon the “illegal immigration” that has the potential to create a second 9/11. If anything can be learned from yesterday’s debate other than a partisan network never works, the world we live in is “far less safe” than ever. Vote, support either party, but know why you are taking the action you seek.
I like “Cats”. I’ve seen it close to twenty times between New York and London. In the world we live in today, it would be nice to have nine lives or to simply be resurrected. Another day would be acceptable, but there’s no guarantee of that happening. How would you have reacted to sitting in the Twin Towers watching a plane aim for your window? Life goes on for most of us but not without wondering what’s next. Bless all who perished and shame on us for thinking it cannot happen again.
