I must be working too hard. I don’t drink or ingest mind altering drugs, sorry Janet, so maybe it’s real. I’ve had a dream that the world is ready to live in peace. From my early formative years, without a doubt, that is exactly what I sought especially given the war in Vietnam controlled the airwaves, all three networks. My how times have changed.
My desire for peace has not and maybe it’s time. I can hear Dwight Eisenhower and the Military Industrial Complex spinning in their graves and they should be. Can you just imagine what the world could do for humanity trading in our guns and bullets for beneficial endeavors. I can. I’d be the first to short the defense stocks. You would too.
So what is driving me to have these dreams? There’s a couple “things” that are coming to mind as I dream and they center on, Russia, the Ukraine and the Middle East. All things considered, we are on the wrong track and spending money in the wrong way. It’s time to change.
Lions and Tigers and Bears Oh My
I know who Dwight Eisenhower is but he’s been dead for years. Putin, Zelenskyy and Netanyahu seem to rule the news for both good and bad reasons. I try to turn channels but all I get are different opinions. Can’t anyone ever get it right? Certainly there is a way to get everyone on the same page, right?
Putin is not well received anywhere. Now he is claiming superiority in space. I don’t know about you but I’m happy the United States has a “Space Force”. Like you I don’t really know what it is other than it’s not moving to Alabama. Putin has taken the lead recently and threatening future nuclear activities from the heavens that will take away our communications capability. Again, is it real, I don’t know but certainly if Stanley Kubrick was still living we would at least have a movie about it. He’s not so all we do have is “Dr. Strangelove”, one of my all-time favorites.
Then there’s Zelenskyy. All things considered, having him as President of the Ukraine is like running Stephen Colbert to lead the United States. While having a comedian at the “top of the political” heap has some functionality understand, it is highly unlikely they’ll know how to “push that button”. Other than lining their own pockets, and face it like our current administration, that’s what happens, what the hell is he doing being in a “cat and dog” fight with Putin. Surely, Chappell, Gervais and Gillis can throw and put together a few good jokes about the interaction but face it, this stuff is real. Give me a real leader, not a comedian with “army” green outfits. It would be nice if he wore a necktie every now and then.
Then there is Netanyahu. He’s been around for many, many years, decades actually but he is not a Golda Meir. To say it nicely, she had her “act” together. Netanyahu and his administration has a bit of “egg” on their faces. For whatever reason they listened to the powers that be in the United States and forgot to keep an eye on the “back door”. So what we end up with is another part of the world where we borrow more money to supply more weapons. Down deep, in my opinion, it’s all part of the plan and it is time to change that plan. What do you think?
Last Night I Dreamed
I remember being in Central Park on September 19th of 1981 and listening to a great concert. I got close enough to hear Simon & Garfunkel but I never saw them live so I bought a few of the albums. It ended with “The Sound of Silence”. They did not sing “Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream” but over the last couple nights they did to me and quite loudly. I know, I’ve dreamed their words and I could not turn it off
I dreamed the world put an end to war. I dreamed that the world’s leaders decided to just be friends and address the problems created by their self-centered egos. After all that’s what it is, right? All power seeking individuals profess to be the “one” that can help everyone else but in reality, they are only helping themselves.
I’ll leave you with the words from Simon & Garfunkel’s gem and ask that you realize it is time to seriously act before it’s too late. This world is on fire. Together we hold the fire hose necessary to put the flames out once and for all.
Simon & Garfunkel were not the first to record “Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream” on their Wednesday Morning 3 AM album. Pete Seeger beat them to the punch. It’s a dream that lives to this day and it’s time to act. I hope you enjoyed today’s post as much as I enjoyed writing it. The world is a dangerous place but few understand how really bad it is. These people did sixty years ago. Now it’s our turn.
