I turned 68 last week. Week didn’t start out too well. Discovered my years of eating far too many sweets caught up with me and I was diagnosed a Type II diabetic. All things considered that was a good thing. Not only have “drugs” and common sense corrected the imbalance (damn I miss most every food I ever loved) I realized that not being able to give back my years of experience to others would have been a tragedy.
Everyone loves yet has doubts on AI. If there was a function of AI that would be most beneficial to all that survived mortality it would center on “formatting” all knowledge and experiences each of us have encountered in life and saving it on a “thumb” drive. Think about it, we could develop a treasure trove of what each other have learned in our lives and perhaps even learn from our mistakes. I’ll let people like Elon Musk do their thing and heavy lifting in this space; I’ll just put out the ideas.
That’s all we are doing with “The Ticker” . . . putting out our thoughts, most coming from life’s experiences. I cannot begin to thank all of you who have made our initial thrust into the “Substack” world a success. This is not my first stab at publishing but for certain it’s doing better than expected; thanks and keep those positive comments and referrals coming. You make me happy that my giving back is being well received.
As I take a look back to the last week’s “market” performance I see a trend that has been observed over and over again yet not appreciated by those who observe it. Many people are looking for that “magic” ticket that illustrates that the ‘worst is over and we are on the right path to extinguishing inflation”. Think about it, last week the CPI and the PPI were down but the S&P had difficulty breaking through the short term glass ceiling around the 4,175 level on the June ES contract. Where are the believers whom think the worst is over? Either they believe these numbers, like I do, are at best aberrations or temporary or they are out of fire power. The latter would not surprise me; ain’t no savings left in the bank, credit cards are currently running over 20%+ and the government printing press is paused. Guess the only way they can come up with more money is to sell something in their IRAs and retirement plans but at best, that is a zero sum game. Just wait until they have to dig into their retirement plans to pay for a couple dozen eggs; that’s when we know there’s mounting cash flow problems . . . and we are closer to that day than not.
Come on people, you just got everything one could ever ,wish for; good numbers and a plethora of articles telling you we’re going “back to the moon”. For those of you who have followed me for years you know that almost nothing ever “goes to zero” and for certain “nothing goes to the moon” but in this case the reaction to “good news” is more important on its face. The good news was not enough to push us to higher levels as would have been expected. That’s an indication in my historical framework, that there is another shoe to drop. What that will be or when it will happen would require several additional articles but I’ll hold off on those until there is an event to tie them to. Until then just keep you eyes on whatever it is you watch and listen to and draw your own conclusions. I’ll chime in when there is something more concrete to relate to.,
A big welcome to those associated with one of the best “young” traders I’ve met in years. I’m appearing by invitation on your Discord thread today and I thank you for checking out “The Ticker”. No, not just this article, read what’s already been put to print and published. Let me know what you think and what else you would like to see me write about. In addition, listen to Daniel. Truly one of the best I’ve worked with in years; you’re all very lucky to have found him.
Hope you enjoyed this post. I’m just a young 68 years old; my Dad became a broker when I was 13. It’s time for me to ‘give back’ to all of you what’s in my head. It’s not always pretty but it’s based on history . . . and history, unchecked, repeats itself.
Everyone learns at their own pace. If you pick everything up the first time through, great but if not email me at dzimmer@substack.com so we can further help.
As you peruse The Ticker you’ll see that more often than not I date myself with songs that changed my life in the 1960s and 1970s. Usually they are tied to the subject matter of what i’mm writing about. Today is a little different; this is just one of my favorites from David Bowie . . . hope you enjoy and above all; keep in touch and sign up.
